Blood gas analysis on penile samples.

چکیده
Penile blood gas can aid in the determination of the subtype of priapism to further guide treatment. A pH 7.25, PO2 30, and PCO2 60 indicate low-flow (ischemic) priapism, which needs to be treated immediately by administration of phenylephrine and draining of blood from the penis. High-flow priapism (1, 2) is usually self-limiting. The sequential samples were obtained to determine the effectiveness of the treatment in improving oxygenation within the penis, indicated by increased PO2 (1, 3). Trazodone was likely the cause (4). Penile rehabilitation with a vacuum erectile device in an animal model is related to an antihypoxic mechanism: blood gas evidence.
Our previous study showed that vacuum erectile device (VED) therapy has improved erectile function in rats with bilateral cavernous nerve crush (BCNC) injuries. This study was designed to explore the mechanism of VED in penile rehabilitation by analyzing cavernous oxygen saturation (SO2) and to examine the effect of VED therapy on preventing penile shrinkage after BCNC. Thirty adult Sprague-Daw...
متن کاملPenile oxygen saturation in the flaccid and erect penis in men with and without erectile dysfunction.
It is believed that a chronic state of corporal oxygen desaturation or hypoxemia secondary to the loss of nocturnal erections is a fundamental pathophysiological cause of erectile dysfunction (ED). Limited invasive blood gas measurements in human models have shown decreased oxygen tension in vasculogenic impotence. Normative data on flaccid and erect oxygen saturation (StO(2)) levels are lackin...
متن کاملCan we Replace Arterial Blood Gas Analysis by Pulse Oximetry in Neonates with Respiratory Distress Syndrome, who are Treated According to INSURE Protocol?
Neonates with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), who are treated according to INSURE protocol; require arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis to decide on appropriate management. We conducted this study to investigate the validity of pulse oximetry instead of frequent ABG analysis in the evaluation of these patients. From a total of 193 blood samples obtained from 30 neonates <1500 grams with RDS,...

Background: In order to determine the prognosis of neonates, it is recommended to use umbilical gas analysis in all high-risk pregnancies. However, utilizing umbilical gas analysis and Apgar score together is very helpful for determining the mortality rate confidence interval. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the application of umbilical gas analysis in assessing the prognosis of infan...
